Have you ever borrowed something from a friend? I’m sure most of us have. When you borrow something, let’s say a book or a pair of shoes, you handle it with special care. Why? Because it doesn’t belong to you and you want to honor the person that loaned you the item. In some cases, you can’t afford the item you borrowed. Even if you can, the opportunity for it to be replaced may not be an option.
As we walk with Christ, we must remember our lives and bodies are not our own. They are borrowed from Christ and if we miss use them, we don’t have the ability to replace them and we dishonor God. Once your body is worn out by sin or your life by poor choices, the damage is done. Yes, I know God is a healer and can make all things new, but we also know that God gives more to those that utilize what they have properly (Matthew 25:29-30).
The Word reminds us in 1 Corinthians 6, we are allowed to do anything, but everything isn’t good for us. For instance, last night, my girlfriends and I shared stories about God telling us not to eat certain foods, as we all have desired to lose weight. While we can eat anything and the New Testament tells us no food is unclean, it doesn’t mean that all foods profit our bodies. Likewise, you can watch whatever you desire on TV, but all television shows don’t edify the spirit or your mind.
In continuation with having the Beauty to Choose, let’s treat our bodies and lives as though they are borrowed and handle them with care, as to have our inner and outer lives be a direct reflection of Christ.
How will you or have you start(ed) to handle your body with care?
“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your bodies.”
~ 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (NIV)
