Busy Does Not Equal Purposeful

For so long I thought if my calendar was booked and if I was busy, I was succeeding. I felt accomplished and important that I had little to no down time.

But as I reflect over my life, I realize that busy doesn’t equal purposeful.

Every calendar appointment, volunteered opportunity, dinner invite and project I accepted wasn’t always on my road of purpose. This year God has called me to be purposeful, intentional, and fearless. Walking in these areas has caused me to slow down and evaluate if my “yes” leads to my end goals.

If I am filling my calendar with frivolous appointments, then I’m often wasting time that God would like me to spend somewhere else. This past weekend I cleared my calendar and spent time decluttering my space. As God wants me to use my office for creative thinking – it’s intended purpose, and not as a storage room. He wants me to slow down and map out the a few projects He’s laid on my heart. But, if I view down time as a bad thing, I’ll mess out on the wisdom that comes from His presence, and won’t intentionally plan the way I need to in order to be successful.

Prayer

Lord, help us to slow down and find comfort in being still. Calm our souls and help us to relax in your presence. Open our ears to hear you more clearly as you guide and direct our lives. Lord, give us the boldness to say no so we can be intentional with our time. Be present in our planning that our works may glorify you.

In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

God wants us to slow down be still in His presence, as busy does not equal purposeful.

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.  ~Ecclesiastes 3:1
